The protection of the eastern border of the Roman Empire has been one of the most important issues since its establishment in the 8th century BC.

Therefore, the ancient Suessa, which means 'blessed, beautiful city' in the Luwian language of the indigenous people of Anatolia, located within the borders of today's Gümüşhane province and later known as Satala (Sadak) settlement, played a very important role, first with the XVI. Flavia Legionnaires, and later with the XV. Apollinaris Legionnaires serving from 117 AD to the 5th century.

In this book, the ancient Satala, where the XV. Apollinaris Legionnaires were assigned to protect the eastern border of Rome, is scrutinized, tracing the traces of these legionnaires in this military headquarters.

This book also presents archaeological evidence suggesting that the important archaeological site of Satala, located in the Gümüşhane province in the Eastern Black Sea region, should have its artifacts returned and displayed in a national museum to be established in Satala, due to its significance akin to the Ephesus (Selçuk) of the Ancient Age, which was known as Apaša by the Hittites.

"Antik Çağda Satala'nın Şifreleri" is a book written by S. Vedat Karaarslan, Turkish and published by Liman Yayınevi in 2024.

The book delves into the historical and archaeological significance of Satala, an ancient site located in modern-day Gümüşhane province in Turkey, which was an important military center for the Roman Empire's eastern frontier.

The book explores the role of the XV Apollinaris Legion, which was stationed at Satala from 117 AD until the 5th century.

This legion was crucial in defending the eastern borders of the Roman Empire. Karaarslan provides a detailed examination of the legion’s activities and their lasting impact on the region.

Moreover, the author argues for the importance of establishing a national museum at Satala to house and display artifacts currently dispersed across various museums. This would highlight the site's historical importance, akin to how Ephesus (Selçuk) is celebrated today (D&R) (Pelikan Kitabevi) (Babil).
